The accusations also include the disbanding of a crime unit investigating politically motivated killings in KwaZulu-Natal province.

President Ramaphosa has announced that a commission of inquiry will investigate the involvement of current and former senior officials in the alleged criminal activities. While Mchunu has stated he respects the president's decision, opposition parties have criticized the move as insufficient, calling for his dismissal rather than suspension. The African National Congress has expressed support for lawful investigations, but public skepticism remains regarding the effectiveness of such commissions.

A press conference held to voice allegations of corruption from within South Africa's police service against its own minister. Senzum Tunu is accused of colluding with criminal syndicates and interfering in sensitive investigations. The war that we are facing is so serious that it deals with high level senior officers within the criminal justice system. So, it is important for us to go into a combat mode. President Silromo Posa says the allegations will be investigated through a commission of inquiry. The commission will investigate the role of current or former senior officials in certain institutions who may have aided or abetted the alleged criminal activity or failed to act on credible intelligence or internal warnings or benefited financially or politically from a syndicate's operations. The police minister is also accused of disbanding a crime unit tasked with investigating politically motivated killings in the KwaZulu-Natal province. That's after it was revealed crime syndicates were behind the killings. Tunu responded to his suspension saying he respects the president's decision. But most opposition parties have criticized President Ramo Posa for not firing him and instead placing him on a leave of absence. Ramo Posa has previously established commissions of inquiry to investigate alleged corruption. But many people say not much came out of them. Some analysts say the commissions have been used to shield political allies and members of the African National Congress accused of wrongdoing rather than prosecute them. The commission is expected to take at least six months to finalize its reports. Many people were hoping for a far quicker result. The allegations are credible from the point of view that you have telephone records of the affected parties, communication between the police, for instance, the head of crime intelligence, the minister and members of the underworld. Several high-profile ANC party members have in the past been investigated for corruption. The ANC says it fully supports all lawful and constitutional processes that seek to uphold the integrity of South African institutions. The latest allegations have further damaged the already fragile reputation of the police in South Africa. Many are asking whether it can be restored.
