The boat is staffed by 15 activists, including lawyers, doctors, and journalists, and will pick up two French politicians before continuing its journey. This mission follows a previous attempt by another ship, the Madeline, which was intercepted by Israeli forces and whose passengers were detained and deported. The ongoing blockade of Gaza has led to severe shortages of essential supplies, and recent bombings have resulted in civilian casualties, including children. The Israeli military stated that a recent strike intended for a member of the Islamic Jihad group missed its target due to a technical error.

Waved off by a small crowd, the Handala crew prepares to set sail from Syracuse in the south of Italy. On board is medical and food aid destined to be handed out to people living in Gaza. This blockade has been going on for almost 20 years now in Gaza, this illegal siege of Gaza where food, water and medicine is denied to the people of Gaza. We're seeing images right now of women and children being funnelled into cages and being shot down. This is not what I'm saying, this is what Israeli soldiers are telling their own media that they're doing. And the whole world is silent and watching this going on. But the Handala will make a first stop to pick up two hard-left French politicians from the France Unbowed Party. They'll be joining the 15 activists already on board, which includes lawyers, doctors and journalists. Handala imposed a blockade on aid reaching Gaza in March and prevented another ship, the Madeline, from reaching the enclave last month. Those on board were detained and deported after they were stopped 185 kilometres from its coast. Bombings meanwhile continue there, with dozens of people killed on Sunday, including children collecting water at a distribution point. We treated 17 patients, including seven children. The patients suffered from various injuries, including fractures. We are experiencing a health crisis and a shortage of medical and health resources due to the severe blockade on the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army said that it had aimed for a member of the Islamic Jihad group and admitted it had failed to reach its target due to a technical error.
