Heavy rains halt recovery efforts in central Texas

All right, we begin in Central Texas, where a new wave of heavy rain brought more flooding, and that, of course, is stalling recovery efforts in the same area hit by the deadly storm on the 4th of July. The rain prompted water rescues and evacuation orders all weekend, and the grim search for scores of missing people has now resumed in Kerr County, and the death toll has increased to 132. CBS News reporter Karen Hua joins us from Kerrville, Texas, as part of her ongoing coverage in this part of the state. Good morning to you, Karen. Tell us how bad the weather was this weekend and how exactly it's slowing recovery efforts. Well, good morning, Errol. I'll walk you through a timeline of what happened just yesterday. About 24 hours ago at this time, it was just raining, drizzling, similar to how it is right now, but the weather turned. It changed very, very quickly. It was about 8 a.m. local time when the rain started to come down really, really quickly and really intensely. Our crew was moving, just trying to drive a short distance at that time, and it was so difficult to see out of our windshield, and we could immediately tell that the roads we were driving were starting to flood, inches even, the type where you drive by, and it creates a huge splash. So we knew this was coming down fast. Where our setup is right now, we're at a campsite where the Guadalupe River is right behind us, and when we were set up here yesterday, we realized pretty quickly we had to get to higher ground. We had to evacuate ourselves. So of course, because we were fearing for our own safety, the Search and Rescue crews as well decided to suspend operations for the day, definitely out of precaution for them as well.
