'Short stumps and big rumps': Corgis go off to the races

Corgis are such a special breed, I mean, it's like our slogan, it's home of the short stumps and big rumps. I think they're so cute, they always look like they're smiling, that it's all around the love of dogs. I mean, and it's core memories being made, and the smiles, and just the people that come up to you and say, when's the next one, that was so much fun, and it just, it's such, it's a silly thing, because all it is, it's just, it's dogs running, that's it, it's amazing. So, I'm Christina, and I have been really active with the Corgi Racing here in Calgary. I love it, it's so much fun, and I just love the community that it brings. We went to Day of the Dog back in 2021, so much fun, we were completely, you know, inspired by that, and just sort of talking with people. We had our first Stampeders game back in 2023, Archie, of course, won, because he's a speedy potato, and from there, it just kind of grew, and it allowed me to kind of be involved in some of the races around Calgary. And so, in 2024 is actually when I created the Calgary Corgi Racers group, because I thought it would be a really great way to kind of connect people, and start talking about logistics, and rules, and how things would go, and then I created a simple website from there to kind of help get everybody organized and situated, because everybody was going, what do we do, what are the rules, what's happening? And then from there, Aline comes into the picture, and she does websites. Hi, I am Aline Medeiros, and I'm in Calgary, and I'm one of the Corgi Racer organizers. Okay, how I started Corgi Racing was pretty interesting. I never actually, honestly, thought to have a corgi, but my husband was like, I love corgis, they are so cute, so like, okay, let's get a corgi as a gift for him, that we got a Dobby, and with that, we just, I found a group, and like, that's Corgi Racing happening, let's try it, and what a good experience. The first time, actually, she came in third place, she was a puppy, she was like seven months old, and from there, I connected with Christina, like, yes, let's do it, because it's great. So, here's Dobby, is a crazy girl, she loves socks, that's why her name, because we are trying to find a name for her when she was puppy, and she started eating all the socks, so like, yeah, that's Dobby. She's a crazy one, she's one year and seven months now, and she won the date of the dog, we are so proud of you, right, yeah, and she's always happy, like you see, she's always smiling, crazy energy, and food-oriented. So, where I see Corgi Racing go, is, I want it to go big, we've seen so many amazing races happening in the United States at sporting events, and so, what I would love to happen is to have, to be with the Calgary Flames, to be with the Roughnecks, to be with the Calgary Stampeders. Sporting events, and this sport of Corgi Racing, I think, could really be an amazing way to showcase this beautiful breed, and to just bring the love of community together, and what better way to do that than through sports. Yeah, so, if you never have been in a Corgi Race, please do it. It's so much fun, we always need, like, actually people holding a corg, so if you never touch a corg, come, they are friendly, they are lovely, and it's so much fun, it's so much community-oriented, so please come over and watch one of our races. It's just, I don't know, there's something about it that's just so exciting, it doesn't, and it seems like it's the silliest thing, but I think when you're there, and you just, you feel the energy, and you see all the dogs, and you're just surrounded, it's Corgi heaven. I just, I mean, I can't describe the feeling, it's just so much fun, it's just like, there's a Corgi, there's a Corgi, there's another Corgi, it's Corgis! I don't know, it's fun.
