With no outright winner in Seychelles’ presidential election, the country will hold a rerun vote between the two main contenders, the electoral authority said Sunday.

Seychelles is set to hold a runoff presidential election after no candidate secured more than 50% of the votes in the first round, according to the country's electoral authority. Patrick Harmini of the United Seychelles party received 48.8% of the vote, while incumbent president Wavell Ramkhalewan garnered 46.4%. 

A candidate must achieve over 50% to win outright, prompting the need for a second round. The date for the runoff has not yet been announced. Harmini's party previously governed Seychelles for decades before losing power in 2020, while Ramkhalewan is seeking a second term amid increasing opposition.
