Tornado threats are ramping up across a large swath of the central U.S.

Severe storms are currently affecting a broad area from the Plains to the Great Lakes, with particular concern for tornado activity in regions such as Green Bay and Nebraska. While some tornado warnings have expired, meteorologists continue to monitor the potential for tornado development along the storm front and in isolated clusters ahead of the main line.

The severe weather threat is not limited to one day, as forecasts indicate continued risk of strong storms and tornadoes stretching from the Texas Panhandle through the Great Lakes. Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the situation evolves.

Severe storms stretch from the Plains to the Great Lakes

You're going to see some strong storms moving in here right around the afternoon, late afternoon, early evening hours, six o'clock local central time. And the storms are moving in right now. You just had the first severe thunderstorm warning for the Green Bay area. But the good news is that tornado that was working its way in that same portion of that line of storms moving into Green Bay, that tornado warning has since been allowed to expire, but we still have this tornado-warned storm there up to the north. So we will be watching out for, once again, an elevated risk of tornadoes as these storms approach the lakes. But overall, it's not just going to be that tornado-warned storm to the north. There could possibly be a tornado embedded in those storms moving into Green Bay. So if you are in Green Bay, even though you're not under a tornado warning, make sure you stay indoors, stay off the roads, make sure you stay covered here as these storms are moving in. Because in addition to that, we also have a couple of other isolated areas of where it looks like we have some strong inflow. So those little areas I circled on the map, hey, we could see some tornado development along that region here as we head into the next, I'd say, hour or so. As these storms approach the Great Lakes. So overall here, as we now look at Nebraska, none of the, all the tornado-warned storms we were tracking previously, those have since been allowed to expire. But we're not done with the severe threat here, the tornado threat here for Nebraska just yet. These storms, once again, they are moving pretty much from southwest to northeast, and you have inflow winds moving in from the southeast. So one thing I will point out is that anytime you get isolated storms in front of the main line, such as this storm right here, or any one of these clusters of storms right there, those look like those could be the primary storms where we could see some tornado formation and elevated risk of tornadoes going forward. So we will be watching out for that potential. So the tornado threat's not over just yet here for the state of Nebraska. And as we zoom out, we still have some other severe thunderstorms to contend with. We have some strong storms moving north in the Texas Panhandle, eventually work their way into the Oklahoma Panhandle. We'll be tracking for you here as we head into this evening. But overall, here's an updated look at our AccuWeather exclusive storm zone. We'll see storms ranging from the High Plains through the Great Lakes. And that level two zone is where we've seen so far all the tornadoes. So we will be watching out for, yes, an elevated risk of tornadoes across this region going forward. But it's not just today. Today's not the only day we're tracking that risk of severe weather. We'll be watching out for severe storms Thursday afternoon, Thursday evening. So as we head into tomorrow, and this risk of severe weather will stretch from the Texas Panhandle all the way through the Great Lakes once again. So we will be watching out for that elevated risk of severe weather here for us, Anna, as we go forward.
