Dr Salvador Placencia has pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles federal court to four counts of distributing ketamine to actor Matthew Perry. Prosecutors stated that Placencia, along with another doctor, supplied Perry with approximately 20 vials of ketamine in the two months before Perry's death, and even instructed Perry's assistant on how to administer the drug.

Placencia faces up to 40 years in prison and a minimum $2 million fine. He is the fourth of five people charged in connection with Perry's death to plead guilty, with one remaining defendant, Yasvin Sangha, still awaiting trial. Placencia's attorney said the doctor is remorseful for his actions and acknowledges his failure to protect Perry, who was vulnerable due to addiction.

Dr Salvador Placencia left federal court in Los Angeles with his attorneys Wednesday after pleading guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine to Friends star Matthew Perry. The 54-year-old actor was found dead in his hot tub back in October of 2023. Prosecutors say Placencia worked with Dr Mark Chavez, who pled guilty last year to obtain ketamine for Perry, and even taught Perry's live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, how to inject the drug. In court, Placencia was calm but clearly uncomfortable. The doctor was sweating profusely and wiping his face as he told the judge he's guilty. Dr Placencia may have spoken to his attorneys, thought that the best route was to take a plea deal where some of the charges were off the table, and he was accepting guilt for accusations which maybe there wasn't a great defense for. Over the two months before Perry's death, prosecutors say Placencia and Chavez supplied about 20 vials of ketamine to Perry for $55,000. Court documents cite text messages from Placencia that read, I wonder how much this moron will pay. In the end, these defendants were more interested in profiting off Mr Perry than caring for his well-being. In a statement, his attorney says Dr Placencia is profoundly remorseful for the treatment decisions he made while providing ketamine to Matthew Perry, and he acknowledges his failure to protect Mr Perry, a patient who was especially vulnerable due to addiction. Placencia faces up to 40 years in prison and a fine of at least $2 million. Of the five people charged in relation to Perry's death, Placencia is the fourth person to plead guilty. Yasvin Sangha, also known as the ketamine queen and who prosecutors allege supplied the fatal dose that killed Perry, is now the only person charged who's still pleading not guilty. There might be more pressure to try and reach a plea deal because the prosecutors have a lot of evidence in this case. A lot of other people have agreed to cooperate to the extent that they're providing evidence. Sangha remains in jail awaiting her trial next month.
