Dr. Salvador Plasencia, the doctor accused of supplying Matthew Perry with ketamine in the month leading up to his death, has pleaded guilty to four counts  of distribution of ketamine. Plasencia is the fourth of the five people charged in connection with Perry's death to plead guilty.

A doctor in California has pleaded guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine to actor Matthew Perry, including administering the drug directly and injecting Perry in a parked car. The doctor acknowledged his actions in court, admitting to supplying ketamine during the final weeks of Perry's life, which contributed to Perry's fatal overdose.

The doctor faces a possible sentence of up to 40 years in prison, though it is unlikely he will serve the full term. He has expressed remorse, accepted responsibility, and will surrender his medical license. Four out of five individuals originally charged in the case have now pleaded guilty, with one remaining defendant still facing trial.

A California doctor has pleaded guilty in connection with Matthew Perry's overdose debt. Prosecutors say he gave the Friends star ketamine, even injecting him in a parked car. Steve Futterman is outside the courthouse in Los Angeles. And Steve, tell us what happened inside the courtroom today. Well, Ian, the doctor who was one of five people originally charged, he did plead guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine to Matthew Perry. Because of the rights you give up, anyone who pleads guilty must basically acknowledge what they did. And Dr. Placencia had to go through a number of statements where he acknowledged what he did involving Matthew Perry, talking about the final weeks of Matthew Perry's life, where he got the ketamine, he distributed, in some cases, brought it directly to Matthew Perry, in some cases, injected it in Matthew Perry's body. At one point, they talked about one incident where he was injected, Matthew Perry was injected with the ketamine, and his blood pressure went up so much that he actually froze up a bit. So the doctor had to admit all these things before it was finally accepted, his guilty plea. Now, he does face a potential of 40 years in prison. Under the federal guidelines, it's unlikely he'll serve anything close to that. But it's very likely he will spend time behind bars. Now, as we mentioned originally, five people were charged. Four of those people have now pled guilty. One person remains facing trial. That is a woman, allegedly a drug dealer, nicknamed by prosecutors as the ketamine queen. She right now is facing trial, although there still could be a deal involving her as well. As you were speaking, Steve, we saw the video of the doctor flanked by what I assume were his two lawyers walking sort of stiffly and quickly into court. Didn't look like he wanted to do any talking. What about afterwards? Did he talk to reporters? No, that's the same thing, Ian, that they went past the cameras. They walked quickly past. Now, he did issue a statement through his attorneys last night. And we can see some of that statement right now where he basically accepts responsibility for what he did. He is not denied doing any of this. He's remorseful. And at one point, he says that he is going to be giving up his medical license. He failed in the treatment of Matthew Perry. Obviously, he was aware of some of the issues involving Matthew Perry with addiction. And of course, Ian, that's sort of the saddest part of this story. We all knew and sort of grew up a bit with Matthew Perry in France. He had such a struggle with addiction, with substance abuse. He was very open about it, acknowledged it, fought it extensively. At one point, he thought he had beaten it. But in the end, it came back. And that's what takes his life so sadly with that ketamine injections. Yeah, sure was, Steve. Great having you on this story.
