Residents near the conflict zone have taken shelter as both sides blame each other for the outbreak of violence. The dispute, rooted in a longstanding land-border disagreement, has recently intensified following the death of a Cambodian soldier, leading to a broader diplomatic crisis and renewed armed conflict.

At least 12 people have died while the countries exchanged cross-border fire after weeks of tension. A Thai F-16 fighter jet quote destroyed military targets in Cambodia, the Thai army said in the latest escalation. Cambodia branded these airstrikes as unprovoked. Thai Defence Ministry's Mali Sochata said Thailand hit eight locations in the country using heavy weaponry. Meanwhile, Thai Rear Admiral Surasant Kong Siri said Cambodia had deployed rocket launchers. Now we have escalated the measures to level four, which involves the complete closure of all border checkpoints along the Thai-Cambodian border. Residents in the Thai Surin province close to the fighting hid in bunkers fortified with sandbags or tyres. One woman described the volume of rounds being fired as countless. Both countries accused each other of starting the clash early on Thursday. This land-border dispute dates back over a century and has led to conflict and at least a dozen deaths over several years. Tensions were reignited in May after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a gunfire exchange. This has prompted a full-blown diplomatic crisis and has now triggered armed clashes.
