A Florida jury has convicted Ryan Routh on all five counts, including attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate and assaulting a federal officer, following an attempt on Donald Trump's life in 2024. Routh, who represented himself during the trial, was subdued by U.S. Marshals after attempting to stab himself with a pen moments after the verdict was read.

Evidence presented at trial included testimony from a Secret Service agent and DNA linking Routh to the weapon found at the scene. Prosecutors also introduced a letter from Routh admitting to the assassination attempt. Routh's sentencing will be determined by a federal judge, with the possibility of life imprisonment.

It took just over two hours for the Florida jury to reach its verdict, convicting Ryan Ruth of trying to kill Donald Trump last year. The 59-year-old, who represented himself at trial, was found guilty on all five counts, including attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate and assaulting a federal officer. Moments after the verdict, a stunning scene occurred when Ruth appeared to try to stab himself in the neck using a pen that was on his desk. He was subdued by U.S. Marshals and taken into custody. I need that long skirt. Ruth was arrested in September 2024 after fleeing Trump's Florida golf course. A Secret Service agent testified he spotted Ruth's face in the barrel of a semi-automatic weapon in the bushes near the sixth hole, while Trump was on the fifth hole. The agent said Ruth aimed his gun at him, so the agent opened fire. During the trial, prosecutors showed evidence Ruth's DNA was found on the gun, and they showed a letter written by Ruth in which he touts, This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump. I'm sorry I failed you. It was the second assassination attempt on Trump in 2024, after shots were fired at a Pennsylvania rally two months earlier, and a bullet grazed Trump's ear. After the verdict, Trump was at the United Nations, praised the outcome. You can't let things like that happen. Nothing to do with me, but a president or even a person, you can't allow that to happen. And so justice was served. Outside the courthouse yesterday, some more dramatic scenes, as Ruth's daughter appeared to be running after the car Ruth was being taken away in, yelling, I love you. A federal judge will determine Ruth's sentence in December, and Gail, he faces the prospect of life in prison.
