The runway at San Diego International Airport has reopened following an hours-long ground stop Wednesday night.

San Diego International Airport experienced a ground stop after a plane crashed on the runway, leading to widespread travel disruptions. Passengers were seen waiting outside departures, many uncertain about their next steps as flights were diverted or canceled and accommodation quickly filled up.

Emergency personnel responded to the incident, and luggage was removed from conveyor belts as passengers waited for updates. Some travelers managed to rebook flights from other airports, while others struggled to find hotel rooms due to the sudden influx of stranded passengers. The runway has since reopened, but the incident caused significant inconvenience for many.

I'm standing right outside of departures and we know this is usually the spot where you go to check in for your flight. But instead of doing that, the moment I arrived, I've seen several people out here with their luggage, sitting on benches with their luggage, just trying to figure out what's next. Some of them waiting for rides, others scrambling on their phones, trying to figure out what hotel they're going to go to, trying to figure out their next flight. All of it just a huge inconvenience. Take a look at this video from earlier this evening. You can see the plane stopped on the runway with emergency personnel and flashing lights surrounding it. Back inside the airport, you can see luggage taken off the conveyor belt and lined up near baggage claim. Passengers I spoke with say it's been a stressful night. One family says they're trying to make it to D.C. in time for their nephew's wedding. A plane that crashed on the runway and hundreds of flights got diverted to different airports and our flight got canceled. But luckily the gentleman at United, he helped us to catch a flight tomorrow morning from LAX. But we have to find right now to go to LAX. Another passenger says he's lucky he has a place to sleep tonight. I will say when I got back to the hotel, which is not far from the airport, they said they had sold out. So in the time that I had rebooked to the time I got to the airport, which was probably you know 30 minutes, 45 minutes, they had booked up again.
