Tropical moisture from the remnants of Priscilla will bring a multiday flood threat to the Desert Southwest starting today and peaking Friday into Saturday. Highest flood threat will be across central portions of Arizona and will include places like Flagstaff Phoenix, Sedona and Prescott.

A tropical system identified as Priscilla is channeling substantial moisture into the US Southwest, raising concerns about flooding across several states. The influx of rain is expected to impact regions such as the California Sierra, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and extend as far as Durango, Colorado, and El Paso, Texas.

The heavy rainfall may result in hazardous conditions, including rock slides in high desert areas and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning. Some locations could receive up to half a year's worth of rain or more within a short period, prompting authorities and residents to remain vigilant as the weather system progresses.

you can clearly see the overall pattern from our tropical entity and our trough that brings rain and mountain snow to the California Sierra and maybe even places like Santa Barbara getting rain or Los Angeles for that matter which would be great in your overall long-term forecast but where we have the tropical moisture that's where we're going to be really concerned with the flood threats we could be talking about rock slides in a very you know high desert climate where we could be adding that moisture to allow some of these rocks to tumble so again keep your head on a swivel here if you're going to be spending any time outdoors plus cloud to ground lightning is going to be very dangerous we've got rain that'll be heading up towards the Grand Canyon here's a look at all of that moisture flowing in as we head into the evening hours tonight and into tomorrow northern Las Vegas, Pahrump, some of these areas in Mount Charleston could see some big rain and notice how it just continues to file in we're at Friday now and you can clearly see all that heavy rain is now spreading towards Durango, Colorado and our flood footprint actually kind of expands and even introduces places like El Paso, Texas in the overall long range so we'll sit here for the next couple of days and watch this activity dance around Flagstaff, Albuquerque and up into Grand Junction and it does look like Jim by the time we head into next week we could be looking at some of us really picking up half a year's worth of rain or even more.
