Macron has requested that Lecornu stay on temporarily to deliver a plan to resolve the crisis. Meanwhile, both left-wing and far-right parties are pushing for new elections, and some of Macron's allies have begun to question his leadership. The president faces mounting pressure, with options including appointing a new prime minister, calling fresh elections, or responding to calls for his own resignation, though he has so far ruled out stepping down.

Three prime ministers have failed to break the impasse, including Sébastien Lecornu, who dramatically resigned on Monday after only one month on the job and just hours after his new government was named. Macron's asked Lecornu to stay on to deliver a plan by Wednesday night to end the crisis. Meanwhile, left-wing parties and the far-right sense a moment and a chance to grab power. Let's return to the ballot box. The French must decide. That's clear. The political chaos is turning some of Macron's closest allies against him. Like many French people, I no longer understand the decisions of the president. First came the disillusion and since then, there have been decisions that suggest a determination to cling on to power. This analyst says the president is increasingly isolated. People are abandoning him. There are pressures on all sides. It's clear he's responsible for the political crisis, which gets worse each day. He seems to be making all the wrong decisions. Macron has few options. He could appoint a new prime minister or call parliamentary elections. He could also heed growing calls for him to resign before his term ends in 2027. So far, he's ruled that out. But one of the lessons of the past months is that no one can predict the president's next step.
