In Colombia, the protest began at the U.S. embassy, which was heavily secured, and proceeded peacefully towards the presidential palace, with some incidents such as the burning of an American flag. Colombian President Gustavo Petro has publicly condemned the violence in Gaza and called for international action, including an arms embargo on Israel. The demonstrations reflect a broader trend of vocal opposition to the conflict from several Latin American governments and their citizens.

On behalf of all Mexican students and the entire Mexican population, we stand in solidarity with Palestine and demand an end to the genocide. And thousands have taken to the streets of Colombia's capital, Bogota. They're demanding an end to the war in Gaza. A number of major roads were closed to accommodate the march. Al Jazeera's Mariana Sanchez has the latest from Bogota. Well, several thousands of Colombians have been marching towards the very center of the capital. They're going to the presidential palace and they've been peacefully marching. Although some protesters did burn the American flag, they had come, many of these protesters, from the U.S. embassy. That's where they began this march at the premises of the U.S. embassy that was completely cordoned off by security at the request of U.S. officials because in the past few days, protests have become violent. President Gustavo Petro has condemned the genocide. He's called for the formation of an international armed force to put an end to the genocide and impose an arms embargo on Israel. Colombia has been one of the most vocal countries against the war in Latin America, along with Chile and also Mexico. And now demonstrators here have been very vocal about their anger about Israel killing children and saying that children are not a threat to Israel. Mariana Sanchez, Al Jazeera, Bogota.
