Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a peace deal, marking a significant step toward ending the conflict. The agreement includes the release of all captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and a staged withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. 

Celebrations erupted in both Israel and Gaza as news of the deal spread, with families of hostages expressing relief and joy. However, questions remain regarding the disarmament of Hamas and the future governance of Gaza. The ceasefire will take effect once the Israeli government formally ratifies the agreement.

It was late at night when President Trump called the families of the remaining captives. In Israel, spontaneous celebrations broke out in hostage square for 734 days. This is where hope was kept alive. Aynav Sangauka never gave up demanding the release of her son, Matan. I can't breathe, she exclaimed. What do I do? Just hug and kiss him. Gil Dickman's cousin, Carmel Gat, was killed in captivity, but he has continued to fight for all the other hostages. I couldn't be happier. The fact that finally hostages are coming back, that the deal was signed, that the war is over. Such a happy moment for all Israelis and for all the Middle East. The first stage of the deal will see all the captives freed in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and a staged Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. What is not clear is whether Hamas will lay down all its weapons and how a post-war Gaza will be secured and governed. In Gaza, the past 734 days have been an endless stream of loss, displacement and war. But overnight, there was relief and joy. President Trump has announced the war has ended, said Wael Radwan. We're overjoyed. More than anything, Palestinians just want the bombs to stop falling. Thank God for the ceasefire, for a name to the bloodshed, said Abdel Majid Abed Rabur. It's not just me. The whole of Gaza will be celebrating. And that ceasefire will go into effect only once the deal has been formally ratified by the Israeli government. And that's expected to happen sometime today.
