The homicide squad is investigating the death of a grandmother found in a bedroom of her north-west Sydney home. Police are looking at what happened between when she went to bed and when she was found 15 hours later by her family.

Forensic teams have collected evidence from the scene, and authorities report that no weapons have been found and there were no signs of forced entry. Selmas lived at the property with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, all of whom were present during the estimated 15-hour window before her body was discovered. Police are appealing for information from the public as they continue their investigation.

Searching for clues in plain sight, and those in not-so-obvious places. There were like many, many, many policemen, like around ten something, like roaming here and there. We were just like, definitely something big, what happened? Around 12.30 yesterday afternoon, police and paramedics responded to a Concerned for Welfare call at a Melon Bar rental property, making a grim discovery they fear could be something more sinister. They located the body of an 84-year-old woman, who has now been identified as Irene Selmas. She was located with injuries to her upper body. Forensics today came in and out of the home, bagging crucial evidence central to the homicide investigation. Neighbours questioned by police say the grandmother was dropped home by a taxi on Friday afternoon, which wasn't out of the ordinary. She was last seen at 9.30 the previous evening, and then was located by a family member the next day around 12.30. Irene lived here with her son, daughter-in-law and grandkids. Police say they were all home during that 15-hour window, and it was one of them who called for help. And we are working closely with them to establish exactly what happened. She was dead for the whole day, and nobody knows, so it's like quite uneasy. Police say no weapons have been found, and 10 News understands there were no signs of forced entry. Post-mortem examination will be completed in the following days, and police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact Mount Jorup Police. Olivia Blunden, 10 News.
