U.S. President Donald Trump has acknowledged Hamas's partial acceptance of a ceasefire proposal drafted with Israel, and ordered Israel to stop bombing the Gaza strip.

Former US President Donald Trump has publicly urged Israel to immediately stop its bombing of Gaza, following Hamas' acceptance of key conditions in response to his 20-point peace proposal. Hamas agreed to release Israeli hostages if the war ends, Israeli forces withdraw from Gaza, and humanitarian aid is provided to Gazans. 

Trump's acceptance of Hamas' position, which he posted in full on his Truth Social page, reportedly surprised both Israeli officials and supporters in Washington. The development comes amid growing pressure within the US to reconsider support for Israel, with a majority of Americans now describing the situation in Gaza as genocide. Trump is said to have consulted with Qatari officials multiple times before making his decision, and the outcome now depends on ongoing negotiations and the ability of peace advocates to maintain momentum.

This wasn't the speech that supporters of Israel had hoped for. This is a big day. We'll see how it all turns out. We have to get the final word down and concrete. Very importantly, I look forward to having the hostages come home. It was an acceptance of the Hamas response to Trump's 20-point proposal for Gaza, that it would release the Israeli captives, but that other issues relating to the future of Gaza needed further negotiation. We're talking about the conditions to release the president. The first condition is that the war should stop. As President Trump said, if we release all of the war prisoners, the war is going to stop. The second condition, the Israelis should withdraw from Gaza Strip. The third condition, there is all of the humanitarian help for the people in Gaza, because they are suffering. That Trump accepted Hamas' position, and in fact posted it in full on his Truth Social page, was reported to have come as a surprise, both to Israel and its supporters in Washington. In fact, hawkish Senator Lindsey Graham tweeted, what they had expected would be Trump's response. This is a rejection by Hamas of Trump's take-it-or-leave-it proposal, he wrote. But Trump flipped the narrative, pressuring Israel to accept a deal instead of Hamas. I believe they are ready for a lasting peace, he wrote. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly. Some feel this may be a reflection of a revolt among both Trump's base and the country as a whole at continued U.S. support for Israel. The majority of Americans now say there's a genocide going on in Gaza. So all of this is coming together to create new kinds of pressure that are unprecedented in the United States that we've never really seen before, in which Trump sees an upside to pushing Netanyahu ways Netanyahu hasn't been pushed before. Trump is reported to have spoken with Qatari officials 10 times before accepting Hamas' offer. And it will now be up to the negotiators and those around the president who favor peace to sustain their pressure amid what's likely to be a major fightback from those who want negotiations to fail.
