Arsonists are on the run after a car was set alight on a driveway in Sydney's south-west, with the blaze spreading to another vehicle and a neighbouring duplex.​

A suspected arson attack occurred outside a home in Condell Park, Sydney, where a car was set on fire and the flames spread to a second vehicle and the front of the house. Three people were inside the home at the time; two escaped by breaking through a back fence, while the adjoining duplex was unoccupied.

Fire crews contained the blaze before it could reach other homes. Neighbours reported that this is not the first incident on the street, referencing a similar car fire nearby in the past. Police are investigating whether the attack was a case of mistaken identity and if it is connected to organised crime, urging anyone with information to come forward.

Flames spreading to a second car and the front of a home. Heard a big bang, didn't take much of it, then I heard another bang, then I smelt smoke come outside and the whole place was gutted. Neighbours say three people were inside the home. One lady was running around panicking when I went out and seen her. It was one of the neighbours and I asked, where's the others? They're still inside. Two of them had to break through a back fence to get to safety after becoming trapped by the inferno. Luckily the family that lives in the adjoining duplex were not inside. It was very scary, as I said, there's a lot of things happening in this street. There was intense fire activity that confronted the crews and they worked hard to contain those fire. Fire crews managing to tackle the blaze before it spread to nearby homes. Neighbours say it's not the first time this street has been targeted. In August, a car in front of another house across the road went up in flames. Police are now investigating whether it was a case of mistaken identity and possible links to organised crime.
