Boluarte, who became president in 2022 following her predecessor's impeachment, did not appear before parliament when summoned. Official data showed over 6,000 people were killed in the first half of the year, the highest figure since 2017. A recent shooting at a concert in Lima further intensified criticism and may have contributed to the decision to remove her.

Official figures show more than 6,000 people were killed in the first half of the year, the highest number since 2017. A shooting at a concert in Lima, hours before the parliament session, may have sealed Boluarte's fate.
