You know, you can think back 30 years ago and you were not able to see any of that marine life in the Long Island Sound decades after a massive lobster die off in years of losing marine life. New research from the Long Island Sound Partnership shows oxygen levels are better than they've seen in 30 years. Better water quality brings marine life to the area. You know more fish. The Environmental Protection Agency says it has taken decades of work to get to this point. That includes reducing garbage, runoff and nitrogen pollution that can fuel algae blooms that can lead to massive fish kills. It may be hard to tell by just looking at the water, but the Long Island Sound Partnership says higher oxygen levels are already making a difference, like creating healthier conditions for fish, shellfish and other marine life. And we're here because we love the environment. Regular beach goers say protecting the sound starts with speaking up. We love the beaches. We love the water and you have to be an advocate for certain for maintaining nature and maintaining good water and sea life. While this progress is promising, the Long Island Sound Partnership says continued conservation will be key to keeping oxygen levels. And marine life thriving for years to come.
