Dogs specially trained to pick up the scent of human remains did not find Lilly and Jack Sullivan, two children who have been missing from rural Nova Scotia for more than five months, RCMP said.

The Nova Scotia RCMP have announced that a recent search using cadaver dogs in the Lansdowne Station area did not uncover any human remains connected to the disappearance of siblings Lily and Jack Sullivan. The children, aged six and four, have been missing for over five months, and the search included areas around their family home and locations where personal items were previously found.

Despite extensive efforts involving ground searches, drones, and the review of over 860 public tips and thousands of surveillance videos, there has been no trace of the children. Police emphasize that the absence of findings by cadaver dogs does not rule out the presence of human remains and that the investigation will continue until the circumstances of the children's disappearance are determined.

No human remains found in cadaver dog search for missing N.S. kids

The Nova Scotia RCMP have provided an update in the search for missing children, Lily and Jack Sullivan. The siblings have been missing for more than five months now and the CBC's Mark Harkiswell is tracking the latest. Mark, weeks ago, the Mounties said they were deploying cadaver dogs in their search. What was the result of that effort? The result, Andrew, is the same result that we've seen for the last five months now. There is no sign of six-year-old Lily and four-year-old Jack Sullivan at this point. This press release issued by the RCMP this morning was more just sort of an update because this case is of such high public interest. It was an update to show where we are now in the investigation. They didn't necessarily have anything new to tell us, but as Andrew mentioned, there was the launch of this search with cadaver dogs. They searched an area of Lansdowne Station in Nova Scotia, about 140 kilometers northeast of Halifax, that they say it was most likely that they would be able to find these missing children. The total search area over the last few days, more than 40 kilometers. They searched around the family home where they went missing from back on May 2nd, trails in the area, an area where a pink blanket belonging to Lily Sullivan had been found the day they disappeared. They brought cadaver dogs because you might remember early in the investigation, police had mentioned that they expected this to be more of a recovery mission than a rescue mission at this point. Despite this large-scale search, one of many throughout the last five months, they were not able to find any trace of Lily and Jack Sullivan. And so the search continues. Staff Sergeant Rob McCammon, who's the officer in charge of the Major Crime and Behavioral Sciences, says we'll keep going until we determine with certainty the circumstances of the children's disappearance and their found. Now, you remember they disappeared May 2nd. The initial investigation touched off a large-scale grid search, which spanned more than 8.5 square kilometers, involved over 160 ground search and rescue volunteers, dogs, drones. This has been a full-scale search for the last five months, Andrew, but not a sign of these children at this point. Police say they have investigated over 860 tips from the public and gone through more than 8,060 various surveillance video files with no sign of these children. Now, the reason they brought in cadaver dogs, again, with the idea of perhaps they would find human remains, they're saying that just because these two specialized cadaver dogs didn't necessarily find anything does not mean that there are not human remains in the search area. It could just be that the distinct odor that they're looking for does not exist or no longer exists. So, you know, disheartening to hear things like that, but at the same time, police are not ruling anything out at this point. They are, quote, investigating all possible scenarios.
