Bassi was assisted by her mother and other chefs, and the effort drew thousands of young Nigerians to the festival, celebrating the popular West African dish. Despite the pot cracking under its own weight when lifted, Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement, further fueling pride in Nigerian cuisine.

Sometimes if you go to random countries, you would find someone and say you're Nigerian and the first thing they ask you is about jollof rice, right? So I figured as the giants of Africa, it only makes sense that we are the ones that pioneer making the largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice. She cooked 200 bags of Basmati rice in a massive pot that is six meters wide and a little over one meter in height. She was assisted by her mother and other chefs. For years, the dish has generated debates among West Africans about which country cooks the best version. Thousands of young Nigerians gathered at the festival in Lagos to support the Nigerian chef. I think it's really nice and it's a motivation for young ladies like me to want to do better, to aim higher and just want to break records. I think this is just going to put us on the map, letting others know that we do not joke with our jollof rice. Every time and always, we know Nigerian jollof rice is the best, so let Ghanaians know that again and again, we are here to make that record and beat that record. The dish took about nine hours to prepare and was finally ready around midnight, but the pot cracked under the immense weight once it was lifted by a crane. Guinness World Records confirmed soon after that Hilda Bassi had indeed set a tasty meal record.
