Matthews, a former Liberal Party member, has applied for an apprehended violence order against Latham, alleging physical violence and degrading acts. Latham has publicly denied the claims, calling them 'comically false and ridiculous,' and stated he has documentation to defend himself. Police reportedly did not apply for the AVO, and both parties have declined media interviews.

The case is scheduled to be heard in court, and Latham is also facing two parliamentary motions condemning his behaviour. The Labor Government has accused him of abusing parliamentary privilege, and past incidents, including a defamation ruling over a homophobic tweet, have contributed to ongoing criticism from political leaders. The Premier has called for members of parliament to stand against bigotry, referencing Latham's conduct.

Continuing, the story says that Matthews went to the police and they did not do anything. They certainly haven't contacted me. And News understands police did not apply for the AVO. Mark Latham declined our request for an interview, Ms Matthews didn't respond. The matter heads to court on July 30th. The following week, Latham will be back in here, where he'll face two motions condemning his behaviour. The Labor Government accuses him of abusing parliamentary privilege by discussing a confidential report about Sydney MP Alex Greenwich. There's even example in this parliament of a totally fraudulent, bizarrely unbelievable psych assessment. Last year, a judge ruled Latham defamed Greenwich through a homophobic tweet. Both the Liberals and the Greens have been working closely with him in the upper house. I think they need to reconsider that. The Premier calls him one of Australia's biggest bigots. Now I'm reminded of that old adage Mr Speaker, never wrestle with a pig, because you both get dirty and besides the pig loves it.
