Showers and storms will continue to move northward across the state of California as tropical moisture increases from remnants of Mario. Rain will be widespread across Southern California Thursday before pushing into Northern California on Friday.

California is facing a flood threat due to exceptionally high precipitable water values, driven by moisture from ex-Mario and additional atmospheric energy. The region, which usually receives minimal rainfall in September, could see two to four inches of rain, far exceeding the monthly average.

Authorities have issued flood watches as the incoming system may also bring damaging winds. While the rainfall is needed due to ongoing dry conditions in the West, residents are advised to remain cautious due to the risk of flooding and persistent humidity.

And of course we need the rain here in the West because things have been just so dry.
