A family-owned window and door manufacturer has officially opened a new $76.5 million, 400,000 square foot facility in Kansas City, Kansas. The facility, now the sole site for the company's new fiberglass product, currently employs over 100 people, with 60% of them from Kansas. The company aims to increase its workforce to at least 600 by 2028, working closely with local schools and community colleges to provide job opportunities. Local economic development officials highlight the project's positive impact on revenue and tax relief for residents, and the company has expressed intentions to expand its presence throughout the county.

The outside of this building looks the same as it did when I visited back in July, but now that this company has officially had its grand opening, what they're manufacturing on the inside is new. I'm Rachel Henderson, our stations Wyandotte County reporter, and I'm exploring this example of economic development. This family owned window and door manufacturer handpicked its newest environment Wyandotte County. The $76.5 million dollar 400,000 square foot facility officially opened Thursday. Marvin's new fiberglass product is now solely manufactured in KCK. It's a personal decision about where they locate. Greg Kendall knows from experience. He's the president of the Wyandotte Economic Development Council. People see the projects that make it through that vetting process, but there are dozens of other projects that need to be done. There are dozens of other projects that never come to the forefront beyond the national brand recognition. Marvin stood out to Greg. It's usually the people inside culture and and what they're doing in the community that that's what we live for. So far, Marvin's collaborated with the local school district and Community College to provide job opportunities. We're super excited to grow the workforce. Olivia Patterson can take credit for hiring the people inside. We always talk about company culture and it truly is different at Marvin. Again, we talked about it. What is it? What makes it different? And I think it's the employees. The number of them has grown since I visited in July. There's currently a little over 100 and 60% of them are from Kansas. By 2028, the company hopes to have at least 600. It's been very competitive and we hope that it stays that way. Greg says competition helps bring in revenue and therefore tax relief that residents want to see. He's also heard residents ask for Marvin size projects East of I-635. And when you look at particularly the Northeast, most of that is residential, which means that I can't go back and just put a an industrial park there. A lot of that available land is out West where Marvin is, but this company says it hopes to plant countywide roots. Will just continue to grow and this is just the start.
