A 36-year-old Kansas man, Curtis Ellington, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually exploiting a 15-year-old in Orange County, New York. Prosecutors stated that Ellington traveled from Kansas to the victim's home, where he stayed overnight and engaged in illegal sexual activity after communicating with the teenager via Instagram. 

Ellington was already a registered sex offender following a 2007 conviction for first-degree rape involving a seven-year-old. In addition to the prison sentence, he received 15 years of supervised release. The sentencing highlights ongoing efforts to address sexual exploitation involving minors and repeat offenders.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 36-year-old Curtis Ellington traveled from Kansas to Orange County in April 2023. That's where he stayed at the teenager's home overnight and enticed them to engage in sexual activity. It comes after he sent numerous Instagram messages discussing his desire to do so. This all happened while Ellington was required to register as a sex offender. According to court records, he was previously convicted in January 2007 of first-degree rape after sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl in the county. Ellington served seven years in prison for that case and was required to register as a sex offender. In addition to this new 25-year prison term, he was sentenced to another 15 years of supervised release.

President Trump has backed down on his plans to send the National Guard to Chicago, for now. Instead, he told Fox News that federal troops will be deployed to a different city.
