The United Nations Security Council has condemned the Israeli attack on the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday and called for de-escalation in a statement agreed by all 15 members, including Israel’s chief ally, the United States.

Israel defended the strike, claiming it targeted individuals involved in terrorism, but faced widespread criticism from council members.

During the meeting, several countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, condemned the strike as a violation of Qatar's sovereignty and warned it could escalate regional tensions and hinder ceasefire negotiations. The Security Council adopted a unanimous statement condemning the attack and supporting Qatar's territorial integrity.

We will reserve the right to respond through tools guaranteed by international law. Israel's ambassador responded with its same playbook of talking points. The men targeted were not legitimate politicians, diplomats or representatives. They were the masterminds of terror. But even Israel's strongest ally would not support its actions. Unilateral bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation working very hard and bravely taking risks alongside the United States to broker peace, does not advance Israel's or America's goals. The marathon three-hour meeting showed the world stands in support of Qatar and condemnation of Israeli actions. The United Kingdom stands in full and unwavering solidarity with Qatar and condemns Israel's strikes on Doha. These strikes are a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar. They risk both further escalation across the region and setting back negotiations for a ceasefire. It is evident that Israel, the occupying power, is bent on doing everything to undermine and blow up every possibility of peace. Before the meeting, the council showed rare unity by adopting a statement condemning the attack on Doha and supporting Qatar and its territorial integrity. The statement was adopted unanimously.
