A man has died in a daylight shooting at Riverstone, NSW, in what police have called a "brazen" targeted attack. Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of a car fire nearby soon after.

Authorities suspect the incident bears the hallmarks of an organised crime hit and that the man was targeted while out for a walk.

Shortly after the shooting, emergency crews responded to two car fires nearby, and investigators are examining whether these incidents are connected to the shooting. Police are also looking into potential links between this case and another alleged attempted hit in Sydney that occurred the previous day.

In developing news, a killer is on the run tonight after a man was fatally shot on a suburban street in Sydney's North West this evening. Paris Martin joins me now from the Sydney newsroom and Paris, police have just given an update. How did this all unfold? Well, Ursula, even at this early stage, this has all the hallmarks of an organised crime hit. He was ambushed in Riverstone, nearly 50km away from the Sydney CBD. When police and paramedics arrived, they found the man believed to be in his 30s, suffering fatal gunshot wounds. They tried to treat him, but he died at the scene. Only about 15 minutes later, emergency crews were called to two car fires, both within a three minute drive from the shooting, a red Aldi and a dark coloured van. They extinguished the blazes, but the cars were destroyed. They're investigating whether they're linked to the shooting. Police believe the man was going for a walk at the time and this was a targeted attack. We'd want to think that in a residential area like that, people could wander the streets at that time of night and be safe, but we do believe it's a targeted attack. My heart goes out to the family of this victim and certainly any of the people that witnessed it. It would have been a horrific thing to witness. Police are investigating if this shooting is linked to another alleged hit attempt in Sydney just yesterday.
