While the demonstration was less attended than similar protests during Trump's previous visit, participants expressed strong opposition to both Trump and the UK government's approach to the visit. The event also drew attention to issues including Palestinian, Ukrainian, and migrant rights, reflecting broader discontent among some members of the British public.

In 2018, during Trump's first visit, anger surged over his Muslim travel ban, an action seen as racist and misogynistic by critics. Fast forward seven years and Britain's invite to Trump for a second state visit is seen by many as capitulation. Today's rally appeared thin on the ground. The passion is here but the people don't appear to be compared to Trump's visit in 2018 when organizers said that something like 250,000 protesters came out against him. At least today, this looks and feels more muted. But just 20 miles west at Windsor, the focus and fawning were on the American president. Many people could say that what Starmer is doing is to preserve that special relationship. Well, this special relationship seems to be more like a relationship of the UK being a vassal state of the US under Trump's reign.
