Experts recommend viewing AI as a tool to enhance productivity rather than a replacement for human skills. Developing AI literacy and focusing on uniquely human abilities such as communication and leadership are seen as essential strategies for adapting to the evolving demands of the modern workplace.

So, whether we like it or not, artificial intelligence is here to stay, and it has invaded the workplace. A new study from LinkedIn finds 44% of employees say their company expects them to use AI. At the same time, three-quarters of professionals in the U.S. believe trusted human insight is irreplaceable. So, how do we strike the balance between working with the technology and showcasing our own uniquely human skills? LinkedIn's career expert, Catherine Fisher, is here to shed some light on this tricky subject. So, Catherine, please help us, because a lot of people see AI as the quote-unquote, I mean, not everyone, right? It's like the enemy to the workforce, right? People are worried about being replaced by AI. How are we now being expected to use AI in the workplace? Think of AI as a tool to help you in your job. It is not going to replace everything you do in it. It's going to make you more productive. It's going to make your job easier. So think of like a realtor. They have to spend time, you know, drafting the marketing materials, scheduling the appointments. But really where they sell the homes is when they're walking you through, you know, really making you believe that you could see yourself raising your family here. AI can take some of the, you know, draft the marketing messages, et cetera. So all the comps. Exactly. So if you think of AI as helping you in your job so that you can do the things you love, that little mind shift is going to unlock tons of opportunities for you. I heard a really interesting quote yesterday about how 80% of jobs will be affected at least 20% by AI, and then 20% of jobs will be affected 80% by AI. So there's all there. This is something you need to take on, Adriana. Was that information that came from AI? Somebody asked ChatGPT what the likelihood of AI's impact was going to be. It was a, it was an NYU conference, I think. Humans. Yes, humans. So it raises the question of, I think you're right, you reframe it. Yeah. But if you're in one of those jobs that might be affected a lot, and you do feel like it could replace you, how do you deal with that? Yeah. Well, what companies are looking for is that growth mindset and really helping the companies figure out how to leverage AI to be more productive in the workplace. So what you want to do is become AI literate. And there are some skills that are not replaceable, communication, leadership, et cetera. So, you know, Copilot can help you summarize notes from a meeting. But what you bring to the table is you understand how your boss likes to receive information or just nuances of the business that AI can't replace. So Copilot, ChatGPT, they're there to help you. But it's that leadership, communication, collaboration, that's irreplaceable. So if someone is not AI literate, asking for a friend, what's a good first step or guide? Yes. The first step is just to do bite-sized learning. Start listening to podcasts, taking tons of courses out there. You really just start small. Use it in your personal life. Go into ChatGPT, say, I've got these ingredients, help me plan a meal. Just those little things can help you. Now we're talking. Yes. Yes. Okay. And also, you know, I, every day in my feed on LinkedIn, people are sharing, you know, what prompts that they use, how they're using it. I even do a series on Steal My Prompt. Go out, hear what other people are- Steal My Prompt? What's that? Well, Steal Your AI Prompt. So that's what, like the question that you asked. So like one of my favorite- I know what the- Prompt is like what search is. I understood that part, but like, is that, Steal My Prompt is a series that you do where people put in what their prompts are? I do. Okay. It's like the Boolean search term. Co-pilot, I was like- That's, okay. I find AI is really useful right now for all the things that happen in the country, and you're like, has this ever happened before? Give me historical examples. I did read yesterday that OpenAI just released, you probably saw this, its first study on what the uses for chat GPT are, and they are used more for practical reasons and less for, you know, work-related reasons. Yeah, and I think it depends on, you know, I would say that like for, you know, co-pilot, I go into co-pilot and I ask it to, like I went on vacation and I said, can you summarize the emails that I missed from my boss? Or I was told once that I wrote something that sounded too corporate-y. I said, can you make this sound more human? And it wasn't the final draft, it just- But Catherine, that's the thing, you are a human, like how you're asking a machine to make something sound more human, isn't there, don't you have something to gain by figuring it out yourself? How to soften the language a little bit? Yeah, it just, it helps, it nudged me in the right direction, and then I took it and I put my own spit on it. It just, it helped me understand where things were feeling. Okay. All right. Okay. I'm going to take your outfits and then send it to AI and say, is this cute for work or not professional enough? You know? That's what spouses are for. I know, but little do you know that Brian's actually just taking the photo you sent him and uploading it to AI and then telling you what AI said. Oh my gosh, I have so many questions now. All right, Catherine Fisher, thank you so much.
