The specialist explained that the typical recovery timeline for ACL surgery is between 9 and 12 months. With the Kansas City Chiefs out of the playoff run, the team has the necessary time to support Mahomes' rehabilitation and expected return.

I talked with a sports medicine specialist from University Health who echoed that sentiment. She says a lot of athletes do return very successfully after A. C. L. Surgeries, but that doesn't mean we'll see him on the field anytime soon. Season is definitely out. He will not be returning this season, but I'm very optimistic and I have, you know, utmost faith in him. And he's shown us before that he's been able to recover from some tough injuries and quite impressive timelines. So I imagine he will be able to successfully return to the Chiefs field next season. She says the average recovery timeline is 9 to 12 months, which the Chiefs have now that they're out of the playoff run.
