The nearly two-year conflict escalated drastically in late August, when the Houthi prime minister and several Yemeni officials were killed in an Israeli strike. The group responded by firing a series of drones and missiles into Israel, hitting an airport in the south, and sparking the latest retaliation. Israel says Wednesday's attack targeted a Houthi military headquarter, a propaganda department and a fuel station. But a spokesperson for the group later denied this, claiming the strikes, which killed dozens of people, were purely aimed at civilian targets. The United Nations, meanwhile, reiterated calls for a ceasefire and urged both sides to put an end to the fighting. We note with grave concern the continued Israeli airstrikes that took place today, as well as the Houthi attacks that had been targeting Israel. What we want to see is a cessation of all military activities between Israel and the Houthis. Yet with both parties eager to have the last word, the conflict is showing no signs of abating. Yemen's Houthi-backed president on Wednesday vowed to continue attacking Israel, saying the response was coming without fail.
