Tropical system Imelda is impacting the southeast coast of Florida, particularly around Cocoa Beach, with rough surf and dangerous rip currents. Forecasters have issued tropical storm warnings offshore, and authorities are urging people to stay out of the water due to the hazardous conditions.

The area is expected to experience these conditions for several days as Imelda moves north and becomes better organized. Local ports, including Port Canaveral, are monitoring the situation, and cruise ships are docked as a precaution. Despite warnings, some surfers have been seen in the water, but boating is not recommended.

right now. Our coverage continues. Leslie Hudson. She's live from Cocoa Beach of Florida this morning with the latest little rough surf at the moment there, Miss Leslie. Yeah, good morning to you, Bernie. For sure. The seas are definitely a little angrier this morning. So we're at the Cocoa Beach Pier. This is a popular spot to come check out when Mother Nature gives a glancing blow, as would be kind of the case with with Amelda. But let me take you a little bit over my shoulder. We'll zoom into the Cocoa Pier down there, and we're starting to see those waves in the neighborhood of, you know, 45 ish feet. There's definitely, you know, that tropical storm warning offshore 60 nautical miles. So the forecasters in this area and, of course, Accuweather's been talking about this as well. The rough surf really going to be the calling card for here in Florida. We could potentially see some of those outer squalls. I've seen some of that down in south Florida, but, you know, we'll see how that plays out here. And, of course, we're expecting to get a little bit of a push tomorrow when it gets just a little bit further northward and a little better organized. But let me show you some video from Melbourne, which is just to my south here in Cocoa Beach from last night, and they had some pretty impressive lightning of very nice lightning storm illuminated the sky there, and there is definitely a pretty decent cloud deck here in Brevard County where we are in Cocoa Beach. So the thinking is that we're gonna be dealing with the rough surf through most of the week, of course, as Imelda pulls north and will continue to deal with very dangerous rip currents. The forecasters with in this area have urged folks to not get into the water. Obviously, anytime there's a tropical system, that's the protocol. But usually the surfers don't listen, and we've seen several out here this morning. Probably gonna see a few more. And then, of course, no boating conditions are recommended either. What's interesting is Port Canaveral, which is in Brevard County where we are, is the largest or one of the largest ports in the world. And as we came into Brevard County early this morning, their cruise ships were there. So it's gonna be interesting. I don't know how they alter their plans. They certainly know how to navigate around systems well in advance, so it's not an issue. But it was interesting, some of the bigger ships, the Disney ships were in, as well as the Norwegian, which are some of the larger ships that come here. So I don't know if that's gonna, we'll try and find out if that's gonna interact with the visitors that come here. Again, one of the largest ports in the country and even the world. But for now, things are starting relatively quiet here. Breezy for sure. The rough seas have picked up a bit. We'll see how that plays out throughout the day and into tomorrow.
