Hundreds of people protested outside Davis Cup tennis matches in Halifax, voicing opposition to Team Israel's participation due to concerns over the situation in Gaza. Protesters called for action from the city of Halifax and the Canadian government, arguing that international sporting events cannot be separated from global political issues.

Supporters of the Davis Cup and groups such as the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs expressed disappointment that the matches between Team Israel and Team Canada were closed to the public, attributing this to the protests. In addition, a separate demonstration against immigration, known as the Canada First protest, took place nearby but was outnumbered by counter-protesters, many of whom had joined from the Davis Cup protest.

For the second straight day, hundreds of people protested the participation of Team Israel in the Davis Cup in Halifax. Those taking part in the demonstration say they want to send a clear message to the city of Halifax and the government of Canada that more can be done to stop what's happening in Gaza. I think it's important to disrupt the silence and also to make it apparent that genocide and the starvation going on in Gaza is not okay under any circumstances. This is not good. We should take some action against it or against Israel and tell them to stop this. This needs to be stopped as soon as possible. I've been concerned for a long time about what is happening in Gaza and all of the deaths that have happened there. Saturday's protest was a similar size to the crowd on Friday which also marched through the streets of Halifax. Now supporters of the Davis Cup and groups like the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs say they're disappointed that the matchup between Team Israel and Team Canada was closed to the public and that the event overall has been hijacked by these protests. But people taking part in these protests say you can't separate international sporting events like this from what's happening in Gaza. Everything's political. Sports are certainly political. If we don't take a stand with something like a sporting event then who knows what are we going to take a stand for. Russia and Belarus have been banned from international sporting events. Why not Israel? They're letting children starve to death. Just down the street was another demonstration. Halifax was part of the so-called Canada First protest taking part across Canada on Saturday. The series of protests were meant to speak out against immigration and call for mass deportations. However, a small number of people showed up and they were met by counter-protesters, many of whom came from the Davis Cup protests and eventually outnumbered the Canada First crowd.
