The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on a Republican-led health care bill as Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies are set to expire at the end of the month. The bill, supported by House Speaker Mike Johnson, aims to direct funds to individuals and allow multi-employers to pool resources for employee health care, but does not include an extension of the ACA subsidies.

Democratic leaders, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have criticized the bill for not maintaining affordable health care and highlighted internal Republican disagreements over extending the expiring subsidies. While an amendment to extend the subsidies is possible, the bill is unlikely to pass the Senate, where Democrats are united in seeking a clean extension of the COVID-era subsidies.

For this, lawmakers are reaching a deal on healthcare because Affordable Care Act subsidies are set to expire at the end of the month. The House is expected to vote this week on a Republican-led healthcare bill. Yesterday, President Trump was asked what he wants to see happen. I want all money going to the people and let the people buy their own healthcare. It'll be unbelievable. They'll do a great job. They'll get much better healthcare at a much lower cost. CBS News Congressional Reporter Torian Small joins us now from Capitol Hill with more on this. Good morning, Torian. Explain what the president means there in getting money to the people and give us a bit of a gut check on if Republicans in the House have enough votes to see their version of this pass and if there's an amendment on the other side to extend the subsidies. Yeah, the president is alluding to this package that House Speaker Mike Johnson is moving forward with. He's been emanating confidence that he has the support of his conference to move forward with this. And what he's talking about when he says he wants the money to go directly to individuals and not insurers is what this bill would address. It would focus on an overhaul, as Speaker Johnson calls it, to the healthcare system, allow multi-employers to kind of feed into a pot in order to bank healthcare for their employees, as well as other reforms that he's outlining. Notably absent, though, is this extension of these ACA subsidies. Here's what Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had to say about this package. The Republican legislation that will be on the floor this week does nothing to keep healthcare affordable for everyday Americans, and they know it, which is why there's an internal revolt amongst House Republicans who apparently can't even get an amendment made in order that would extend the tax credits that are about to expire. On a potential amendment, Speaker Johnson acknowledged that there are some lawmakers, Republican lawmakers, who want to see an extension of those subsidies. He said that that amendment could happen. The problem, though, is whether or not Democrats will buy into that. They don't want reforms to NEF healthcare. They want just a clean extension of those COVID-era subsidies, and then even if it were to pass the House, because Republicans do have the majority here, it probably won't pass that 60-vote threshold in the Senate considering Democrats are kind of aligned on this same situation, Errol.
