Ketia Louis-Charles and her family are among the many Haitians displaced by ongoing gang violence. After fleeing their home in Solino, one of the last communities in Port-au-Prince to resist armed gangs, they now live in a makeshift shelter with limited protection from the elements.

Louis-Charles describes their current situation as catastrophic, with her children unable to attend school and the family lacking basic comforts. She appeals for help, expressing hope that international assistance will improve their circumstances, though there is currently no guarantee of support.

Like hundreds of thousands of other Haitians, Ketia Louis-Charles and her family have lost almost everything to the gang violence engulfing the country. The 34-year-old fled her home last year along with her husband and three other children. The community Solino was one of the last in Port-au-Prince to resist the armed gangs. When I was living in Solino, I can't say I was living 100%. About 90% of the time I was fine because I was at home. I wasn't in the situation I am now. I was at home doing business, my kids were going to school, and I slept comfortably. The situation I am in now is totally different. It's not good at all. When I was in Solino, things were better. Now I am living a catastrophic life. Life is not good at all. The family now lives in a makeshift shelter that barely protects them from the weather. They sleep on plastic sheets padded by grey blankets. Life is very complicated for me. I am asking for help so that I can get out of this situation. Since I got here, it has been very humiliating. All I dream about now is leaving this camp so that my children can go to school, graduate from high school and be useful to society. For many Haitians like Charles, the only hope lies in more international assistance. But for now, nothing is guaranteed.
