He maintained composure throughout the race, securing an automatic qualification spot and earning praise from his school community for his achievements and role model status.

Gout was discovered by his school's athletic coach at age 12 and continues to impress on the international stage. He aims to improve his time, inspired by Usain Bolt's performances as a teenager. In the women's 200m, Queenslander Tory Lewis also progressed to the semifinals after recording a personal best.

He's winding up the first three to go through. In the top three, he automatically qualified for the semifinals. He was shaking early. He would have been rattled for a moment. Not so, says Gout Gout. You've just got to stay calm, you know, like, this is what you do every day. You train, you do blocks every day, you do speed workouts every day. So it's just another training session, you know. I mean, even though this is the biggest stage in the world, you've just got to go out there, treat it like a training session and just go out there and have some fun. Praise from his school, who say Gout Gout is a role model in the playground. Posting online, they can't wait to have him back for his final lap as an Ipswich grammar student. The school's athletic coach scouted him at age 12 and he's been impressing since, but never on the world stage like this. Gout is aiming to run faster tonight, close to the time set by his idol Usain Bolt when he was a teen. Usain Bolt, he's the athlete. Everyone looks up to him. So you've just got to keep looking up to him. Just go out there and run like a horse or run like the wind. Fellow Queenslander Tory Lewis also threw to the semis after a personal best in the women's 200 metres. This is a terrific performance by Tory Lewis. Hopefully that means I have a shot at the final, but I'm not going to look too much into it like I did with the 100s. I'm just going to try and run it like it's any other round.
