The UDB is set to win 55 seats, with the main competition coming from the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), the party of former president Ali Bongo, which won three seats in the first round.

This parliamentary victory strengthens Ngema's position following his presidential win earlier in the year and marks the conclusion of Gabon's political transition after a coup ended 55 years of Bongo family rule. The second round of voting was held in 77 constituencies where no candidate had previously secured an absolute majority.

The victory is a huge boost to Ngema, who won a presidential vote in April. The exercise concludes a political transition after an August 2023 coup by Ngema ended 55 years of the Bongo family rule over oil-rich Gabon.
