A hillside brush fire burning alongside Jamacha and Sweetwater Springs boulevards in Spring Valley spread to 75 acres and threatened structures, according to Cal Fire.

Firefighters in Spring Valley, San Diego, have successfully stopped the forward spread of a brush fire that grew to approximately 30 acres. The fire, which began near Double Tree Road and Barbit Road, prompted evacuation orders and threatened nearby homes and buildings. 

Crews, supported by airdrops, continue to work on extinguishing remaining hot spots. A temporary evacuation site has been set up at Skyline Church on Camper Road, and officials remain on scene to ensure the area is safe before lifting evacuation orders.

Forward spread stopped in Spring Valley brush fire

The forward spread has been stopped of this fire, but there are still several crews as you can see behind me still here stomping out the hot spots that are left from this fire here in Spring Valley. Now I want to give you guys a look at what it looks like over here and just a scope. You can see the homes right here and just how close this fire has come now. Right now we can see charred hillside as well. You also have a lot of hot stuff bots that those crews are still working to put out. And from my vantage point, no active flames that we can see right here. But like I said, these crews are still working quickly to put these out. Now, Cal fire tells me the winds and the terrain here is what helped that fire move at such a critical rate early on. And if you're driving this afternoon, you may have seen that smoke in the air. Now it's for several neighbors to evacuate. This is what we know about this fire. The large fire first sparked around two this afternoon near Double Tree Road and Barbit Road. It's grown to roughly 30 acres. Now, officials said earlier it had the potential to grow to 200 to 300 acres, and that's why they fought it on the ground and in the air. Swiftly, several airdrops since we've been here, there's retarded on the ground. Quick work by crews. The fire is now moving out of that fire. Like we said, the forward rate of that fire has been stopped, thankfully, thanks to all the quick work work by these crews. Now, officials say that fire was threatening buildings and homes in the area that evacuation order still in place and the event. The temporary evacuation site has been opened up at Skyline Church on Camper Road for those who need it. Now, thankfully, for all the work that these crews have done, you can still see that they're still here on hand, and the Cal fire tells me that they will remain here as long as it takes to make sure that they put all the hot spots out as well. But of course, we have to be very thankful and fortunate for these crews working so hard out here in Spring Valley to make sure that these homes were so close to this fire came very close to close for comfort. But fortunately, they were able to stop that rate of speed.
