Florida's minimum wage has increased to $14 an hour, as part of a gradual plan approved by voters in 2020 through Amendment 2. The law requires the minimum wage to rise by $1 each year until it reaches $15 an hour, with the next increase scheduled for the following year. 

Supporters of the wage increase argue it helps workers keep up with the rising cost of living and stimulates the economy. However, some business owners have expressed concerns about higher labor and operational costs, noting that expenses such as payroll, rent, and insurance have also increased. Once the minimum wage reaches $15, future adjustments will be based on inflation.

As of today, the minimum wage in florida is now $14 an hour and it's expected to go up again next year. Back in november of 2020 florida voters approved amendment two which allowed the gradual increase in the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2026. So every september 30th since 2021 the minimum wage has been increasing $1 until it reaches $15 on september 30th 2026 which means today the minimum wage in florida goes up to $14 an hour and required cash wage for tipped employees increases to 10 98 an hour before amendment to pass florida's minimum wage was 8 56 an hour. Proponents of this change argued people can't afford the rising cost of living and that paying higher wages ultimately boosts the economy. And we've spoken to many of you recently about how expensive things have gotten. Everything now is budgeting and it's now do I really need this opponents to the wage increase argued it will lead to rising labor and operational costs. Some business owners have told us raising minimum wage has multiple impacts. I think people have kind of lost the perspective that as we do increase minimum wage, so does everything else. I spoke with kelly Rodriguez loriano with Lolita's wine market in ST pete about the importance of supporting small businesses. While she agrees with raising wages, it does cost them. That's why she believes if everyone prioritizes supporting local, it can really help. I think that we're all struggling. It's a real balance. I don't think a lot of people realize that um you know, we voted rightly so for the minimum wage to go up. Well, one of the things that has happened is since 2017 when we open to now in 2025 our payroll for our servers has doubled hourly. So not only has that doubled but our rents tripled um our insurance has tripled and once the minimum wage reaches $15 next year, it will go back to being adjusted annually for inflation.
