The situation has persisted for the past week, affecting several locations. In particular, the small town of Cosmo Newbery, situated near Laverton, continues to face challenges due to the flooding. All roads leading in and out of Cosmo Newbery remain submerged, complicating relief and recovery efforts.



Flooding hits outback communities in WA

After more than a week completely cut off from the world, a food delivery at last. A truck filled with supplies makes its way into Cosmo Newbury. But a stop over here wasn't part of the original plan. The semi-trailer had set out for a nearby mine, but struck trouble. We sent a loader out from Greer Mine site and tried to get the truck out of the bog, but that ended up getting bogged as well. A group of locals helped free the truck and its load from the mud, bringing much needed supplies back to Cosmo Newbury. I think about a tonne and a half of food, so that's a lot of fruit and veggies and a lot of cold meat and that should last, keep people happy for the next quite a few days. The accidental food drop came at a good time. DFES was going to drop off extra supplies to the community at the weekend, but couldn't because of a technical issue. The local government says it could be a while yet before roads reopen. They've had anything from 250 to 300 millimetres out there and the country out there is just like an Inland Lake at the moment. There's still a lot of water over the road and it looks pretty grim for a while yet. He's urging people to shout out if they need help while the water clears. For more UN videos visit www.un.org
