All Canadians must be able to get up, go to work, go to their church, temple, mosque, community centre, and then come home and sleep soundly at night. After protests and incidents outside places of worship, a source says the government is expected to propose new criminal offences, making it illegal to intentionally intimidate or obstruct people from accessing certain buildings. The scope of a synagogue for the Jewish community, a mosque, a church, but also community centres, schools, or specific places that are designed specifically for a given community. A source says there will be an exemption so people can continue to protest as long as it's legal. But the plan raises questions about what exactly crosses the line, while some question whether it will go far enough. It's an important step in the right direction. It's not a comprehensive solution to all of the challenges that we face. The Conservatives say they'll review the legislation once it's introduced, but add they've been calling for new measures that include protecting places of worship for two years and say the government failed to act.
