The announcement follows Alphabet's recent success in the U.S., where the company avoided a breakup in a long-running antitrust case brought by the Department of Justice. Alphabet's market value has increased significantly since that legal outcome. Now the fine is over Google's ad tech practices in Europe. The move comes as trade tensions heat up between the U.S. and the EU. It also comes after a big win for Alphabet here in the U.S. The company avoided a breakup in its landmark antitrust case against the DOJ that it has been battling for five years. Alphabet adding roughly two hundred and thirty billion dollars to its market cap since then. CEO Sundar Pichai at dinner last night with President Trump and other tech executives saying that he's glad it's over and that he appreciated that the administration had a constructive dialogue and that they were able to get to some resolution.
