The Elbert School District in Colorado canceled classes as officials and volunteers search for two missing middle school girls from Colorado Springs. The girls were last seen leaving Elbert School with their backpacks before a basketball game, both wearing blue shorts and hoodies.

Authorities, including the Elbert County Sheriff's Office and Douglas County Search and Rescue, have conducted searches using drones, canines, and foot patrols. Residents in the Academy East area are urged to check their property but not to drive around, as this may interfere with official search efforts. Updates from the sheriff's office are expected, and the girls' names and photos are being confirmed.

Yes, school leaders now saying that they went missing before a basketball game yesterday. Denver sevens. Lauren Lennon just got to where police have set up a command post. Yeah, well, a new search parties, they're starting to arrive on scene here and actually Douglas County search and rescue just showed up. You can see their truck here this morning. And when we got to the scene, we started seeing groups of people coming out and I was able to speak with some school district leaders and they said that that's right now. Those search parties are starting to arrive and you can see in front of the school right now. Uh, those are those search parties and they're about to head out this morning. Now we also did speak with Albert County Sheriff's office quickly before setting up here and coming on air right now. They said that they searched last night from 11 30 p.m. To midnight. They had drones, canines, people on foot and they did say that they will be ramping up search and rescue efforts at nine a.m. Now the other school district again, they said the two girls left Albert school with their backpacks around five p.m. Last night, both wearing blue shorts and hoodies. Both of the middle school girls were from Colorado Springs school again missing from that basketball game last night. The school district, they're asking anyone who lives in the area of the academy east area specifically to search their property. Uh, they do say they don't recommend that you drive around and search for them just because that could interfere with their search efforts that are going on. Uh, now again we will, we are expecting to hear from the sheriff's office in about an hour, an hour and a half this morning. And of course we will bring those updates with on air and online at Denver seven dot com. But we're going to continue to follow these search efforts and bring those updates.
