Yeah, the president's comments were the most upbeat from ECOWAS. They finally realized that the Sahel countries won't come back and now their approach is to cooperate, to accept this division and just to make it work for daily life of millions of people so people can still travel, work in other countries, goods can continue to be traded. They've accepted it now. There won't be any talk more from ECOWAS for the Sahel countries to come back. So in a way, the Sahel military regimes won. I mean, they got everything they wanted. They always wanted to keep the trade privileges that they could import, export goods that their citizens can move around. And ECOWAS has realized they can't force them to come back and kind of offer peace. So this was the most optimist, most upbeat comments from ECOWAS we've seen so far. Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have suffered regional and international pressure to hold elections, a key contributor to their frosty relations with ECOWAS. The visit comes at a time when militant violence has intensified in Mali and Burkina Faso.
