After seemingly nonstop rain this week, Floridians will finally get a break when the weekend arrives.

Florida has been experiencing persistent heavy rainfall, with some storms producing 2 to 3 inches of rain per hour. This has led to concerns over flash flooding, particularly in areas like Lehigh Acres and Miami, where slow-moving thunderstorms have caused significant downpours. While some areas are seeing temporary breaks in the rain, the overall weather pattern remains unsettled due to a stalled front and an area of low pressure in the Gulf. Meteorologists are also monitoring the possibility of tropical development along the stalled front in the coming week, though the likelihood remains low at this stage.

Downpours soak Florida day after day

The relentless rain in florida just will not quit afternoon and evening. Storms continue to fire day after day, with some dumping 2 to 3 inches of rain per hour. The main concern is obviously flash flooding. Meanwhile, today marks the climatological peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, but it's quiet for now, with ocean temperatures running well above average. Conditions are primed for storm development later this month. Let's go now to Key Largo, florida. Great spot typically. And again, that's the case right now. But you can see evidence of recent heavy rain on that street there left of center. Anna, you can see some rainwater and ponding. Yes, you can. That is certainly one of the concerns that we've had today. You can see some sun peeking through with the puffy clouds there in Key Largo. Now the rain, it's a break, right? We're still seeing rounds of rain to talk about. So let's take a look at radar zooming in here to florida. We're really looking at the bird's eye view right now, and I'll orient us a little bit better here. Did not zoom into florida the best there. Now you can see there are thunderstorms to talk about. Let's zoom into exactly where the action is because it's actually a little bit calmer right now compared to a couple hours ago, all relatively speaking, right? So we still have plenty of lightning here to talk about. I'm gonna turn that off because I want to really let you see where we have the downpours. Now it's in some areas that you've had the downpours for a couple hours now. Very slow moving cells of thunderstorms were really zoomed in here, but places like Lehigh Acres really seeing the downpours right now. The reds, the yellows oranges. This is where we especially get concerned about flash flooding. This is where we get those rainfall rates 123 inches an hour. It's certainly not out of the question here. Let's zoom back out a little bit. Take a look at the bigger picture once again. This is really the only action to talk about. We had some issues in Miami earlier with some thunderstorms, some more calmer showers, not even as much lightning at one point, but that has moved out Miami. Mostly dry, though. You can see, especially as we put this back into motion here. If we zoom into Miami a little bit more another round of some showers, it's moving its way in kind of coming out of the southwest here. So just know they're kind of fizzling out, but you could see a few more showers as we go throughout the rest of the night. But let's talk big picture once again, because there are some changes on the way. I'm sure it's a welcome sight for a lot of you. Probably. Overall, we have drier air that's going to take hold. Now, the key here, the culprit behind our rain and thunderstorms, right? I want something to blame when it's been days of thunderstorms. It's an area of low pressure that right now is stuck in the gulf and a stalled out front. We get some progress with theory of low pressure moving off to the Atlantic. The stalled out front. It just kind of becomes not sold out, moves south and then stalls out once again. So somewhere like Miami, South Florida, you don't get the break this weekend that a lot of the rest of the state gets. Now, as we talk about that sold out front, I bring that up not just because it's the culprit here, Jeff, but because you're eyeing this for potential tropical development next week. This would be something we have to keep an eye on. I can kind of draw it out here on the map and whenever we have a front stall over parts of the warm water, the Caribbean or the goal for the western part of the Atlantic this time of the year, if it stagnates long enough and with limited wind shear in place, we could see something form along it. Sometimes we're probably not going to see this fully organized, but it's something we have to keep an eye on. So we're highlighting that as a low likelihood area for development over the next seven days. Now,
