The U.S. Department of Justice is set to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein's convicted accomplice, amid mounting political pressure on President Donald Trump over his administration's handling of the Epstein case.

Ghislaine Maxwell, the youngest daughter of former media tycoon Robert Maxwell, has had a prominent social life in both the UK and the US. After her father's death, she moved to New York, where she became closely associated with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Maxwell was accused of introducing Epstein to influential figures and facilitating his abuse of underage girls, including organizing sexual massages and trafficking minors.

Maxwell was arrested and later convicted on charges of sex trafficking, with four women testifying that she groomed them as teenagers for Epstein. She is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence and remains the only former associate of Epstein to be convicted in connection with his sexual offences. Maxwell is now set to meet with the U.S. Justice Department as investigations into Epstein's network continue.

Born into a life of privilege, Ghislaine Maxwell is the youngest daughter of former media tycoon Robert Maxwell. Despite her family's wealth, Maxwell's home life was dysfunctional. Her father was abusive, both physically and verbally, to all nine of his children, according to her siblings. But Ghislaine was keen to appease him and went on to become her father's favourite. She studied at Oxford University, where she was running in circles with the likes of Britain's Prince Andrew. Maxwell went on to work for her father and was a well-known socialite. After Robert Maxwell's death in 1991, Ghislaine moved to New York and continued her socialite lifestyle. Maxwell was also the ex-girlfriend of the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It's unclear of when they met and how long the relationship lasted, but the pair reportedly split up in the 90s. However, they still remained close friends and staff at the disgraced financier's home said Maxwell ran the household and social calendar. Maxwell is said to have introduced Epstein to her social circle of powerful people, including Prince Andrew. She also organised massages for Epstein, which were of a sexual nature, many of whom were underage girls she trafficked to him. One of the victims, Virginia Roberts Dufresne, spoke out against both Maxwell and Epstein, accusing them of forcing her to have sex with the British royal when she was a minor. I was so young. Ghislaine woke me up in the morning and said, you're going to meet a prince today. I didn't know at that point that I was going to be trafficked to that prince. Maxwell was arrested in July 2020. Four women accused her of grooming them as teenagers to participate in sexual acts with Epstein. Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty and is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking. She's the only former Epstein associate convicted in connection with his sexual offences.
