Distressing video footage shows a 41-year-old man in Gaza who died of starvation as humanitarian organizations urge for Israel to end its blockade of the enclave. CNN’s Jeremy Diamond reports.

Recent reports from Gaza show a worsening humanitarian crisis, with images depicting individuals suffering from severe malnutrition. One case highlighted is that of Mohamed Ahmed al-Hassanat, a 41-year-old man who died after months without access to adequate nutrition, following the blockade of the Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, ten people have died of starvation in the past day alone, bringing the total to 111 since the conflict began, including 81 children.

Children are reported to be the most vulnerable to starvation due to ongoing restrictions on aid. The broadcasted images underscore the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, as the blockade continues to prevent essential supplies from reaching those in need.

We are seeing people who are hunting for aid, who are taking risks with their lives as they have been gunned down while trying to reach that aid. Or whether we are talking about children in hospitals suffering from malnutrition, they all point to this same picture. And one of those pictures is that of a 41-year-old man, Mohamed Ahmed al-Hassanat. And these images are indeed disturbing, but they are important to show our audiences. As you can see, this man has died due to malnutrition. He developed symptoms of malnutrition about four months ago, according to his brother, following Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip. He needed nutritional supplements. He needed protein. None of that has been available to him inside of Gaza. And yesterday, he lost his battle against that starvation, dying at the age of 41 years old. And you can see in these images just how emaciated his body became before it ultimately gave out. He is one of 10 people who have died of starvation in the last 24 hours, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Altogether in Gaza, 111 people have died of starvation since the beginning of this war, among them 81 children. And indeed, children have been the most vulnerable to the starvation in the Gaza Strip, to the blockade of aid that has driven it.
