Denver International Airport (DIA) is experiencing a busy fall travel weekend, with more than 90,000 passengers expected to pass through security checkpoints. Despite the high volume and nationwide travel delays caused by a government shutdown, DIA has reported smooth operations, with TSA wait times remaining under seven minutes and no significant delays.

Travelers noted that while other airports, such as Newark, faced delays and tarmac backups, DIA maintained efficient service. The airport advised travelers to check TSA wait times and parking availability online, as economy lots are full and garages are filling quickly. Passengers are encouraged to use public transportation where possible.

We headed out to the airport to get a look at how they're handling the crowd so far. There may be crowds, it was a lot of people, but no big delays at DIA on Friday. Things that at the airport have been super smooth. More than 90,000 passengers are expected to pass through DIA's security checkpoints today. Airport officials say it's a peak fall travel weekend, happening as the government shutdown is causing travel delays nationwide. Usually we're about a couple hours early, but with everything that's been going on, we ended up showing up at the airport at 7 for our 10 o'clock flight. Amanda flew back to Denver from Newark and tells me there were dozens of planes backed up on the tarmac there this morning. Our flight was delayed an hour and a half. I think everybody's on the same mindset to just help each other out and keep moving together. Other than a brief train outage this morning at DIA, we didn't see lengthy lines. TSA wait times no longer than seven minutes. Travelers both arriving and departing say they expected to see more delays today. Grateful that TSA is out there working and we recognize a lot of times they might want to call in sick or have some travel disruptions. We didn't see any of that today. It worked out to be really simple, straightforward. I thank all the TSA people for working through all this stuff. If you're traveling this weekend, check TSA wait times and parking online.
