That's how the Australian Climate Service describes the impact of climate change on every community in our country. The report examined three scenarios. If global temperatures rise by 1.5 degrees, 2 degrees and 3 degrees. Worst case, that would see the number of heat-related deaths soar by 444%. The average amount of minor coastal flooding days would surge from 15 to 257 days per year. Let's be clear-eyed about the challenges. Greg Mullins has seen Australia's changing climate first-hand. He was the Commissioner of Fire and Rescue New South Wales for nearly 14 years. I've watched the fires get worse, the fire seasons get longer. This National Climate Risk Assessment is old news to firefighters. Australia's housing market would also be decimated. The assessment estimates $611 billion would be wiped from property values by 2050, making already expensive insurance unaffordable and unattainable. This is a really serious warning about the climate future that awaits us all if this government keeps kissing the arse of coal and gas. This is just a massive exercise in scaremongering. The Albanese government will unveil its 2035 emissions reduction target in the coming days, and it's perfect timing for the Prime Minister, who heads to New York this weekend for the United Nations General Assembly.
